Learn the scriptwriters' secrets with Imperial Leather & Coronation Street
As part of the Coronation Street 50th anniversary celebrations, we have been given exclusive access to their scriptwriting team to offer a once-in-a-lifetime prize for schools across the country. Year 9 and 10 teachers are invited to create a new character and storyline with their class AND it couldn't be easier.

A pack containing all of the materials to guide your lessons will be sent to you with a username and password for the website
Login to the secret area of the website and upload your storyline along with photos and video from your lessons to complete your entry

In a very special opportunity, classes entering our competition will receive an entry pack containing:
a script template with an opening scene
instructions on how to layout and write your episode
handy tips from the real Coronation Street scriptwriters
biogs and exclusive insights into characters
instructions to upload work in progress photos and videos to accompany your entry pack
a disclaimer for parents to sign, as pupils, teachers and schools will be required to participate in publicity
All entries will be judged by the Corrie writing team, and the authors of the winning script will win some unique prizes.
Did we mention the fab prizes?
- 1st prize is a Corrie VIP day for your teacher, with the chance to take part in the filming of a scene, as well as a Corrie set tour for your class. Also, a cast member and member of the script writing team will visit your school for the day to run a Corrie workshop.
- 2nd and 3rd prize receive a tour of the Corrie set.
- All 10 finalists will receive an original signed Corrie script.
Terms & Conditions
- Entries must be written by pupils in year 9 or year 10 of secondary school studying English, Drama or Media Studies. Groups can be guided by teachers.
- Teachers must register on this site to take part in the competition no later than 31 May 2010. Entry packs shall be sent via email to the valid registrants from 29 April 2010 to 30 April 2010. The closing date for entries is 9 July 2010. The 10 finalists will be notified by email on 2 August 2010 and the names of the finalists will be made available on this website shortly after 2 August 2010.
- By registering to participate, schools and entrants understand they may be asked to and are hereby obliged to participate in publicity activity. The parent/guardian of a pupil that has been included in an application is deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions.
- Due to Coronation Street's busy programming schedules, all timings may be subject to change.
- Storylines that are entered into the competition become the property of Coronation Street and all intellectual property rights in such storylines shall automatically and immediately after being entered into the competition vest in Coronation Street. Whilst it is unlikely that a storyline will actually develop into a real dramatisation, Coronation Street's script department reserves the right to use part of or all of the creative content submitted. No royalties will be payable nor recognition of such contribution given should this happen.
- The content of the storylines entered into the competition must be suitable for a family audience.
- All entries should be the original work of the pupils and should not be plagiarised from another persons idea or a part of their work.
- All shortlisted entries will be judged by the Coronation Street script writing team and the authors of the winning script will win some unique prizes.
- Winners of prizes will be notified by email on 13 September 2010. The competition prize winners' names will also be made available on this website shortly after 13 September 2010 or on request by sending a SAE by 13 September 2010 to [insert address].
- The results of the competition are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Prize fund consists of; 1st prize is a walk on part in an episode of Coronation Street for the teacher of the winning class plus a Coronation Street cast member, a member of the scriptwriting team will visit the school of the winning class to hold a workshop [and the 1st prize class winners will receive a tour of the Coronation Street set with one of the producers]; 2nd and 3rd prize class winners will receive a tour of the Coronation Street set with one of the producers; each of the 10 class finalists will receive an original signed Coronation Street script (i.e. one script per class). Each class that enters the competition will receive a limited edition goody bag of Imperial Leather products delivered to their school.
- The 1st prize walk on part will be filmed in November (dates to be advised nearer the time and subject to change at the discretion of Coronation Street). The 1st prize workshop will take place in either September or October (dates to be advised nearer the time and subject to change at the discretion of Coronation Street). 2nd and 3rd prizes, dates to be advised by Coronation Street. [Schools taking part in the set tour are responsible for arranging and paying for their transport to and from the Coronation Street set.]

- There are no cash alternatives and the prize is non-transferable by the entrants. If a prize winner is not available on the dates specified by Coronation Street as being the dates on which the prize must be taken an alternative winner may be chosen.
- No responsibility can be accepted for entries lost, delayed, misdirected, damaged, deleted or undelivered. Incomplete entries will be disqualified. Neither PZ Cussons (UK) Limited ("PZ Cussons") nor Coronation Street shall be responsible for technical errors in telecommunications networks, internet access or otherwise preventing entry to the competition.
- PZ Cussons and Coronation Street reserve the right to select alternative winners or finalists, remove an entrant or withhold or modify any prizes in the event that there are reasonable grounds for believing that a winner or entrant has contravened any term or condition of entry or in the event that PZ Cussons or Coronation Street has reasonable grounds for believing that the winner or entrant has acted or may act in a manner that could damage the reputation of PZ Cussons or Coronation Street. PZ Cussons shall not be required to provide any explanation in the event of it exercising any of its rights under this paragraph 16.
