In building the Innovation Centre our main ambition was to bring together product development, fragrance manufacturing and liquids manufacturing under one roof.
Our new site at Agecroft has allowed us to do this perfectly. We have retained the excellent people already working within the business, and achieved our secondary ambition - placing the new heart of PZ Cussons at the heart of the North West.
How many products do you manufacture each day/week/month/year in the UK?
Because it is our start up year, we are still building to capacity. But on today's asset base we can already make 30% more than our old site (somewhere in the region of 130 million bottles per year), and this will grow as we continue to install new modern high-speed equipment.
Like most other producers in the market, PZ Cussons utilises a variety of packaging materials in our manufacturing; the main packaging materials used being paper, plastic and metal.
The papers we use for secondary packaging are generally biodegradable, the exception being when the paper has been coated or laminated in some way. The plastics and metals used for primary packaging are not biodegradable, but we're working on this.
PZC UK recently became a member of Business in the Community and as part of this we have made a long-term commitment to Salford Academy, working to help them achieve their aims as a school.
Recently this allowed us to give seven Salford Academy students business experience in our new Innovation Centre as part of the school's work experience program. Other activities include a school education pack on good hand hygiene featuring our Carex brand, and the current corporate sponsorship of the Manchester International Festival.
Finding the perfect fragrance requires both time and experience. We combine our knowledge of fragrance trends and consumer needs, with the creativity and passion of our perfumers, to develop fragrances that we think consumers will love.
But it is essential that, at every stage, we test our fragrances with our target groups to ensure the ideal performance in use. By speaking to executive panels, focus groups and in situ panel testing we can ensure we give our consumers exactly what they want and need from every fragrance.
From an unlimited palette of ingredients, our perfumers will usually select between 25-150 materials for use in a unique fragrance.
Currently, over 1000 fragrance ingredients are in use in approximately 500 bespoke fragrances throughout the PZ Cussons range, each one tailor-made for the kind of people who choose that product.
PZ Cussons takes great care in evaluating the potential environmental impact of the Group's operations across the world and we are committed to reducing our effect on the environment, for the benefit of our employees and the public at large.
We believe that the identification, control and reduction of the environmental impacts of a business are integral elements of well-managed operations. As a consequence we are committed to continuous measurement and improvement of environmental performance, through appropriate product design, the minimisation of waste, efficient use of resources, the prevention of pollution and the protection of the environment.
Our products are dermatologically tested and are suitable for people with sensitive skin, although it's impossible to guarantee that every product will suit everyone, taking into account certain skin sensitivity and allergy triggers. It's always best to avoid any product containing an ingredient that is known to cause a skin reaction!
Our range of SkinKind products launching in 2010 is hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested for sensitive skin - and contain allergen free fragrances - so you can enjoy your shower without the risk of irritation. More news on this range available early 2010.
Is Imperial Leather soap available in the USA or Canada?
Our soaps aren't available in either the USA or Canada any more due to it not being commercially viable to sell them over there. We haven't got a direct ordering facility either for these products.
Our shower, bath, handwash, bar and foamburst ranges are available in most high street retailers such as Tescos, Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Boots, Waitrose, Superdrug and many others.
The packaging used for our shower gels, hand washes and bath foams is made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and can be re-cycled. Our Foamburst packaging is made from aluminium, which can also be recycled, as can the cartons and film on the bar soaps.
Like many aerosol products the product is flammable and so appropriate caution should be taken when it is used. As with other aerosols, the product should not be exposed to a naked flame or any incandescent material such as lighted matches, candles or electric fires.
